Watching his son Andrew – a vibrant, lighthearted individual with autism – struggle to find his place in the world, seasoned entrepreneur John D’Eri spent countless hours thinking about what Andrew would do when he was no longer there to support him. As Andrew grew up, John saw that although he was becoming a very capable young man, there were virtually no opportunities for him after he aged out of the school system. In 2011, when Andrew was 21, John had the novel idea to buy a car wash to employ Andrew and other people with autism. That idea evolved into a groundbreaking social enterprise, Rising Tide Car Wash. Rising Tide is a high-quality Flex Serv conveyorized car wash, which John founded in November 2012 with his other son, Thomas D’Eri.
With a financial background and visionary approach to organizing and executing business concepts, John has an impressive and long history of entrepreneurship. He spent the first 10 years of his career in the field of public accounting, specializing in Tax Planning and Management Advisory Services. In 1992, he founded World Copy Inc., a business focusing on providing reprographic services to the top law firms in New York City. World Copy Inc. quickly grew to over 100 employees and established itself as a leading service provider within the New York legal community. During his time at World Copy Inc., he received US patent 5,848,202 “System and Method for Imaging and Coding Documents” for his system of document coding and retrieval.
While an active CEO at World Copy Inc., in 1996, John founded the Chelsea Equestrian Center, a state-of-the-art equestrian center, centrally located at Manhattan’s Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex. In 1998, John sold the Chelsea Equestrian Center.
In 2000, John organized a team of programmers dedicated to creating a complete integrated scan-print solution for World Copy and rebranded it as World Document Solutions. The business evolved to be one of the first independents in New York City to focus on Electronic Data Discovery (EDD). In 2008, John sold World Document Solutions.
With a proprietary technology, John founded New York City-based MercuryIQ (MIQ), an EDD company with services encompassing forensic data collection and data processing through hosted data review for law firms and corporate council, in 2010. MIQ quickly grew and by 2011 expanded into San Antonio, Texas.
In February 2012, John sold his interests in MIQ and dedicated all of his efforts to CanDo Business Ventures (www.candobiz.com), a company which he founded in 2011, dedicated to designing, testing and deploying businesses that can provide sustainable employment for adults with autism. He founded Rising Tide Car Wash to further this cause.
“I’m very pleased to be using my longtime business experience not only to create a premier car wash experience, but also awareness of a cause so near and dear to my family and millions of others across the country,” said John. “Being a part of shifting the way Americans view the capabilities of individuals with autism, and giving these individuals a place they can call their own, are what I consider to be some of my greatest accomplishments.”
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y.
John currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He has two grown sons, Thomas and Andrew.
